Our
Sunday School has traditionally
met in Church at 11:00am on each Sunday following our morning service.
We have however found that this time just does not fit with many families'
schedules. We have therefore reluctantly decided to stop our Sunday
School for the moment. In the meantime we have joined with our friends
from Embsay Methodist Church to start a Discovery Club at the local primary
school. This club now meets every Thursday afternoon during term time,
from 3:45 to 4:30.
This year the Sunday School adopted Water Aid as their charity. This charity helps provide water to the poor in India and Africa. Just £7 will pay for a tap; £15 will purchase a good shovel; £100 would pay for 300 local language health education leaflets; and £500 would buy a hand pump. During the early part of 2001, we worked on a project to raise enough money to "Send a Cow" to Uganda in Africa. This meant the Sunday School had to raise at least £750 in order to purchase a cow locally in Africa which would be given to a local family. The dairy cow produces milk for the family, and hopefully some excess which can be sold. The family is also trained to look after the cow, and to use the manure to grow vegetables. In
the event, the Sunday School managed to raise £1000, through making
and selling cakes and biscuits, holding a concert in our village hall,
and perhaps most significantly - sponsoring our vicar to shave off his
beard. Children and Parents (CAPs) meet in church every Wednesday afternoon during term time, at 1:30pm. This is an informal group of children and parents. The children are looked after while the parents can chat and offer each other mutual support and friendship. If you would like to join us, please just come along. Children's
